Our Story

We Teach AI Development
the Way Craft Is Taught.

Modelwright started with one idea: people learn to build by building, not by watching someone else do it. We designed every course around that.

Built in Bangkok, Focused on Makers

Modelwright was founded in Bangkok in 2022 by a small group of software developers and educators who shared a frustration with the state of online learning. They'd watched learners sit through dozens of hours of video lectures and emerge without a single working project to their name.

The name came from the older word "wright" — a craftsperson who makes things. A wheelwright makes wheels. A shipwright makes ships. A modelwright builds models. The metaphor stuck because it captured exactly what we wanted: a place where learners become makers.

Today, Modelwright serves learners across Thailand and Southeast Asia through three structured build tracks, each one designed around a concrete output — a working program, a functional AI tool, or a complete AI application.

// our mission

A Workbench for Every Learner

Our mission is straightforward: give people the environment, the tools, and the guidance to build things with AI — regardless of their starting point. We believe the best way to understand a technology is to use it on something real.

We keep our learner numbers manageable so that mentors can give proper attention to each person's work. Feedback is specific and honest — the kind you'd get at a workshop bench from someone who's made the same mistakes and figured out how to move past them.

Standards at the Bench

Learner Data Privacy

Course submissions, personal details, and progress data are kept private. We do not share or sell learner information to third parties.

Reviewed Curriculum

Course content is reviewed quarterly to keep pace with changes in AI tooling. What you build is relevant to how AI development actually works today.

Specific Mentor Feedback

Feedback on builds is concrete and actionable — not generic. Mentors reference specific lines, patterns, and decisions in your project when reviewing.

Accessible Learning Format

Materials are written in plain English with clear explanations. Courses are designed to be accessible to learners without a computer science background.

Progress Tracking

Each learner has a clear milestone map. You can see exactly where you are in the build track and what's needed to move to the next station.

Honest Communication

We don't overstate what our courses do. We're clear about what you'll build, how long it takes, and what skill level each track is suited for.

What We Care About

Modelwright is built on the idea that the most lasting way to understand AI development is to work through it yourself — not to consume information about it. Every course structure, every milestone, and every piece of feedback we give is shaped by that conviction.

We care about learners leaving with something real. A working program. A tool that does something. A complete application they've designed from the ground up. Those artefacts matter more to us than metrics about hours spent watching videos.

We care about honesty in how we talk about our courses. AI development is a field that moves quickly, and there's a lot of noise around what it means to "know AI." We focus on practical skills, working projects, and the habit of building — and we say so plainly.

We care about the quality of feedback our learners receive. A workshop without a skilled craftsperson looking over your shoulder is just a room with tools in it. Mentor attention is at the centre of what Modelwright provides.

We're based in Bangkok's Silom district and serve learners across Thailand and the wider region. Our courses are in English, delivered online, and designed to fit around working schedules.
